  • This season, the mosquito-borne viral infection has been causing havoc across the country and Delhi is no exception with the total number of cases rising to over 310. As per reports, four people have succumbed to dengue in the national capita so far.
  • The World Health Organisation (WHO) estimates that about half of world's population is now at risk from the mosquito-borne viral infection.
  • Symptoms, which usually begin four to six days after infection and last for up to 10 days. The principal symptoms of dengue may include – high fever, severe headaches, body aches, eye pain, muscle or bone pain, skin rash, mild bleeding (nose, gums, or easy bruising), low white cell count, etc.
  • There is no specific medication for treatment of a dengue infection, which is transmitted by female mosquitoes mainly of the species Aedes aegypti. But early detection and access to proper medical care can save lives. Dengue, if left untreated can develop into severe complications resulting in dengue hemorrhagic fever.
  • Since, there's no specific vaccine or medications available against dengue, the most important step to prevent dengue is to avoid mosquito bites. However, there are some effective home remedies for treating dengue:
  • Papaya leaves – The leaves of papaya can be crushed and strained with a cloth to drink the pure juice.
  • Basil leaves – Either you can chew the basil leaves or drink boiled tulsi water. Basil has long been recommended in Ayurvedic medicine for the treatment of dengue fever.
  • Neem leaves – Boil neem leaves in water and then drink the subsequent brew, which can help increase both blood platelet count and white blood cell count.
  • Fenugreek leaves - You can soak the leaves in water and then drink it. You can also get methipowder and mix it with water and have it.
  • Orange juice – Orange juice can help treat symptoms of dengue fever and eliminate the virus due to the rich mixture of antioxidants and vitamins found in it.
  • Turmeric – You can put turmeric in milk and then consume it. Turmeric is popularly known to boost metabolism and helps in making the healing process faster.
